Since I had turned to
my quilting as an activity to occupy my mind and hands, I began to wonder how my quilting
ancestors had coped with their stress and occasionally, grief filled lives. My third book
explores this little known area of quilting history. Developing these once culturally
historical celebratory/commemorative/ or memorial quilt patterns is an extension of my
personal grief journey to aid other quilters who may currently be experiencing similar
stresses in their lives for whatever reasons. If quilters choose to use them for funerals,
their 15 inch wide by 45 inch length drape over the closed bottom half of the casket
leaving amply room for the traditional floral spray. The designs range from a simple cross
with or without wedding rings and can be made in three days or less, to simply elegant
wreaths featuring various methods of applique.
May you remember the good times, laughter and love,
and find peace in creating this quilt.
